Fort Hamilton 4 Years Old Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey
Fort Hamilton spent years building its reputation on New York Rye before finally extending, in the founder's words, its hospitality into bourbon — and this Single Barrel was the release that completed the Brooklyn distillery's core lineup in 2024. It's the first Fort Hamilton bourbon made entirely from New York grain: 85% corn, 10% rye, and 5% malted barley, all grown in the Hudson Valley, distilled at Taconic Distillery in Stanfordville and aged around four years in a single char #3 new American white oak barrel in the distillery's heated Brooklyn waterfront warehouse, where the whiskey keeps moving in and out of the wood even through New York winters. Each barrel is bottled individually, non-chill filtered, certified kosher, at 95 proof (47.5% ABV), hand-labeled with batch, barrel, and bottle number. Founder Alex Clark — an English expat turned Brooklyn bartender and Revolutionary War obsessive — runs the operation with his wife Amy Grindeland, and the "Hearts of Oak" on the label honors Alexander Hamilton's first artillery company. Wine Enthusiast's blind tasting found enticing vanilla bean and caramel aromas leading to a substantial, warming palate where oak leads, framed by milk chocolate, vanilla, and creamy caramel, with water pulling out cocoa, hazelnut, and pecan pie. Honest reception: reviewers agree it's smooth and crowd-pleasing, with one calling it an introductory sipper rather than an enthusiast's bottle. A genuine all-New York bourbon, and a natural Old Fashioned base.
