Fukano 200th Anniversary Sherry Single Cask Whisky celebrates two centuries of the Fukano Distillery in Hitoyoshi, Kumamoto Prefecture, on the island of Kyushu. Founded in 1823, Fukano makes whisky the Kyushu way: from rice fermented with koji, distilled and then aged in oak. For this limited anniversary release, a single sherry cask was selected and bottled at 42.3% ABV in a 700ml bottle.
The sherry wood wraps Fukano's silky rice distillate in dried fruit: fig, raisin and a subtle hint of oak on the nose, then toffee, dark chocolate and baking spice on a velvety palate, with a long, luxurious finish. It is a whisky to sip neat and a fascinating contrast to barley-based single malts.
