Fukano 2022 Edition Whisky is the annual release from Fukano Distillery in Hitoyoshi, Kumamoto Prefecture, a family distillery founded in 1823 on the island of Kyushu. Fukano's whisky is made from rice fermented with koji, distilled and aged in oak, a tradition rooted in the region's shochu culture, and each yearly edition is a fresh blend of the distillery's casks. The 2022 Edition is bottled at 41.6% ABV in a 700ml bottle.
Rice whisky drinks lighter and silkier than barley malt: expect honey, orchard fruit and orchard blossom on the nose, a smooth palate of vanilla, pear and gentle oak spice, and a clean, lingering finish. Serve it neat or with a drop of water, or use it in a refined Japanese highball.
