Fukano Edition #2223 Whisky is a numbered small-batch release from Fukano Distillery in Hitoyoshi, Kumamoto Prefecture, founded in 1823 on the island of Kyushu. Fukano makes whisky from koji-fermented rice, distilled and matured in oak, and each numbered edition is a distinct blend of casks selected by the family. This one is bottled at 41.6% ABV.
The nose is an elegant bouquet of fresh fruit, orchard blossom and a gentle waft of honey. The palate shows ripe pear, apple and a touch of citrus, with honeyed sweetness balanced by subtle oak and a touch of spice. The mouthfeel is silky and smooth, and the finish is long, sweet, fruity and gently spiced. Serve it neat or with a drop of water.
