George Dickel 17 Year Old Reserve Cask Strength Tennessee Whiskey is the oldest whisky in the Dickel range and a rare thing in Tennessee: a seventeen-year-old age statement from the Cascade Hollow Distillery in Tullahoma. First released as a limited edition, it was brought back by General Manager and Distiller Nicole Austin, who selected barrels that captured the essence of the original release while adding subtle contrasts. Seventeen years in the Tennessee climate brought it down to 92 proof, its natural cask strength.
The Whiskey Wash awarded it a perfect 10 out of 10, calling it an excellent Tennessee whiskey with real complexity that still keeps the category's mellowness, with baked apricot, cinnamon, nutmeg and caramel on the nose, honey and vanilla leading into warm spice and tropical fruit on the palate, and a finish of peppery oak and toffee, adding that the price is very reasonable for a seventeen-year age statement. Dickel describes crème brûlée, apricot, plum and juniper with a rich cedar finish. Made from Dickel's 84% corn mash and charcoal mellowed, it is a collector's Tennessee whisky.
