GlenAllachie 10 Year Old Cask Strength is the bottling that first put Billy Walker's revived Speyside distillery on the map: Batch 3 was named World's Best Single Malt at the 2021 World Whiskies Awards. Each numbered batch is a fresh marriage of casks selected by Walker, the industry veteran who revived BenRiach and GlenDronach before buying GlenAllachie, built near Aberlour in 1967, in 2017.
Batch 8 is matured in a combination of Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks, virgin oak and bourbon barrels, and bottled at full cask strength, non-chill-filtered and naturally colored. Expect sharp cereal, nougat and dried fruit on the nose, then a big, chewy palate of sherried raisin, toffee, coconut husk and warming spice, finishing long with dark chocolate. Drinkhacker recommended it with a splash of water. Batches sell out fast, so this is one for enthusiasts to grab while it lasts.
