GlenAllachie Virgin Oak Series 10 Year Old Spanish Oak Finish is part of a limited trilogy in which master distiller Billy Walker explored what brand-new oak from three different countries does to his Speyside spirit. Walker, the industry veteran who revived BenRiach and GlenDronach, bought GlenAllachie, built near Aberlour in 1967, from Chivas Brothers in 2017 and has made wood innovation the distillery's signature.
Aged for a decade and finished in virgin Spanish oak casks, then bottled at 96 proof, non-chill-filtered and naturally colored, in a 700mL bottle, it opens with warm vanilla, toffee, toasted coconut and tropical fruit on the nose, then a silky palate of honey, candied orange peel and vanilla sweetness that gives way to cinnamon, clove and a hint of dark chocolate from the Spanish oak, finishing long and warmly spiced. A limited release for collectors of cask experiments.
