GlenAllachie Virgin Oak Series 7 Year Old Hungarian Oak Finish is part of a limited trilogy in which master distiller Billy Walker explored what brand-new oak from three different countries does to his Speyside spirit. Hungarian oak, prized by winemakers for its tight grain and gentle spice, is almost never seen in Scotch. Walker, who revived BenRiach and GlenDronach before buying GlenAllachie, built near Aberlour in 1967, in 2017, has made wood innovation the distillery's signature.
Aged seven years and finished in virgin Hungarian oak casks, then bottled at 96 proof, non-chill-filtered and naturally colored, in a 700mL bottle, it offers rich dark honey, toffee, dried apricot and baking spice on the nose, then a velvety palate of honeyed orchard fruit and vanilla that builds into cinnamon, nutmeg and dark chocolate, finishing warm and lingering. A limited release for adventurous drinkers and collectors.
