Glenmorangie Signet Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Glenmorangie Signet is Dr. Bill Lumsden's masterpiece and the most distinctive whisky in the distillery's range. Its secret is high-roast "chocolate malt" barley, roasted like coffee beans, an idea no other Scotch distillery had used, blended with some of Glenmorangie's oldest and rarest whisky and matured in designer casks of virgin American oak and Oloroso sherry. Distilled at Tain in the tallest stills in Scotland, it is presented in a heavy, embossed decanter.
Bottled at 92 proof, Signet is like a strong espresso fused with treacly plum pudding: nutty sherry, dark fruit and roasted coffee on the nose, then ground coffee, fig, rum raisin, candied orange peel and burnt sugar on a rich, mocha-bitter palate, with a crackle of sizzling spice and a fresh mint-and-lemon lift, finishing with vanilla and chocolate. Drinkhacker graded it an A-. A show-stopping after-dinner malt and one of the great luxury gifts in Scotch.
