Goldschmidt Vineyards Yoeman Plus Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Goldschmidt Vineyards is the Sonoma family winery of Nick and Yolyn Goldschmidt, New Zealanders whose winemaking careers led them to Alexander Valley, where their children now work harvest and cellar alongside them. Yoeman is their small mountain vineyard just south of Geyserville: southeast-facing terraces of well-draining glacial loam where soft morning sun slows ripening and stretches hang time, with two old field selections adding cluster diversity and very low yields. Yoeman Plus is Nick's barrel selection from that site, a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon bottling drawn from the deepest, most concentrated lots in the cellar and given extended aging in new French oak before release at about 14.5% ABV. Expect a deep purple-garnet wine of black plum, blueberry and black cherry, layered dark fruit and spice with delicate floral notes, velvety tannins and vibrant acidity that keeps the finish long and fresh; the standard Yoeman bottling earned 91 points from Wine Enthusiast, and the Plus is a clear step up in density.
