Goose Island Bourbon County 2022 Coffee Stout
Bourbon County Stout is the imperial stout Goose Island brewmaster Greg Hall first aged in Jim Beam barrels in Chicago in 1992, the beer that started the bourbon barrel-aged stout category and now launches every year on Black Friday. Coffee was one of the first Bourbon County variants back in 2010, made with Chicago roaster Intelligentsia, and the 2022 release marked the return of a coffee version for the first time since 2017, again with Intelligentsia. The coffee is Turihamwe, a Burundi blend whose name means "together," produced by women coffee farmers in Burundi and chosen because Burundi coffees are among the cleanest and sweetest in the world, a match for the dense stout underneath. The base beer is the same Bourbon County imperial stout, brewed with Millennium hops and aged in bourbon barrels before the coffee goes in. It's bottled at 13.2% ABV. Goose Island's official notes are rich chocolate, coffee and caramel: roasted coffee layered over the chocolate and caramel depth of the barrel-aged stout. Serve it slightly below cellar temperature in a snifter and let it warm as you drink; the coffee and barrel character open up as it does. Contains wheat.
