Gun Fighter Double Cask Bourbon
Gun Fighter is the whiskey label of Golden Moon Distillery in Colorado, the craft distillery founded and run by distiller Stephen Gould. It is the only whiskey brand in Golden Moon's portfolio, and it covers a Double Cask bourbon, a Double Cask rye and occasional aged releases such as a 13-year Tennessee bourbon bottled from orphan barrels. The Double Cask Bourbon starts with bourbon distillate sourced from O.Z. Tyler (now TerrePure), which Golden Moon ages for a minimum of six months in new charred American oak barrels. It is then moved into French Port wine barrels for a second maturation, and that finish is where the 'double cask' name comes from and where most of the character is built. It is bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV). Reviewers describe a caramel color with a hint of red from the Port casks, a nose where the Port wood and light floral notes show first, and a spicy, assertive palate with a rough-around-the-edges, Old West personality that suits the label.
