This one exists because bartenders wore Ed Hamilton down. From Boston to DC they kept asking for a navy strength rum more approachable than what was on their backbar, and Hamilton's answer was initially a recipe rather than a bottle: mix one ounce of Hamilton 151 with a fat half ounce of his Jamaican Pot Still rum. Everyone agreed it worked — but bartenders wanted it pre-blended so staff couldn't get the ratio wrong on a busy night. Finalized in September 2016 after testing 60/40, 50/50, and 40/60 splits, the winning formula is 60% high-proof aged Guyanese rum from Demerara Distillers and 40% high-proof Jamaican pot still rum from Worthy Park Estate, stirred slowly for 48 hours and reduced with filtered well water at Five & 20 Distillery in Westfield, New York to 114 proof (57% ABV). Expect a lively, prickly nose of young Jamaican funk, banana, and caramelized pineapple grounded by rich Demerara molasses, opening into treacle, prunes, vanilla, and herbaceous anise, finishing long and spiced with tobacco, cinnamon, nutmeg, and black pepper.
