Ed Hamilton — the Minister of Rum — built this one to order. Strong Water Tavern in Anaheim wanted something bolder than his Jamaican Pot Still Black rum for their cocktail program, and Lost Voyage is the answer: aged pot still rum from Jamaica's Worthy Park Estate married with aged Guyanese rum, bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV), roughly 12% stronger than most rums on the shelf. What separates it from Hamilton's other Jamaica-Guyana blends is the balance — this one leans distinctly Jamaican-forward, using the Demerara component to deepen and enhance the brighter Jamaican flavors rather than dominate them. Expect rich fruit on the first pass and smoky spice on the second, opening into ripe banana, papaya, apple skin, candied ginger, black tea, and cacao nibs over baked dark fruit, finishing long with spice, tobacco, and smoky oak. One reviewer described it as a more complex Coruba replacement and reported that friends who normally drink tequila and gin both said they'd sip it neat. Superb in a Mai Tai, Queens Park Swizzle, or Montego Bay. For the record: Strong Water was nominated among the country's best bars by Tales of the Cocktail in 2022.
