Hamilton West Indies 1670 Blend Rum
The name marks a shared birthday: both estates behind this blend trace their heritage to 1670. It's essentially Hamilton's Navy Strength blend brought down to drinking proof — Demerara rum distilled and aged on the banks of Guyana's Demerara River married with Worthy Park Estate rum from Jamaica, bottled at 84 proof (42% ABV) in New York, with no additives and no filtration. It was originally released as the "New York Blend," commissioned by a group in that state, before being renamed for the estates' founding year. The Guyana component is understood to carry up to five years of age. Expect honeyed stone fruit and ripe banana on the nose with smoky hints of caramelized fruit, opening into smoky cedar, dark fruit, brown sugar, prunes, dates, and spice, finishing long with a brine note underlying smoky wood. Memphis Rum Club praised how efficiently it marries Worthy Park's milder funk with DDL's dark fruit and molasses, calling it more complex than the average cocktail rum and perfectly enjoyable neat. Ed Hamilton designed it specifically as the base for an aged daiquiri — and it's the reliable choice anywhere a recipe calls for an aged blended rum.
