Herzog Wine Cellars traces its roots to Philip Herzog, who made wine for the Austro-Hungarian court in the 1840s and earned the title of Baron from Emperor Franz Joseph. Eight generations later, the family's Oxnard, California winery is the benchmark for kosher wine in America, and the Generation VIII tier is its top single-vineyard, small-batch series. This bottling comes from the Padis Vineyard in Napa's cool, southerly Oak Knoll District, where a long growing season and bay-influenced evenings give Cabernet ripe fruit with firm acidity. Winemaker Joe Hurliman and his team pick the vineyard in small lots and age the wine in French oak barrels, with new wood used generously to match the fruit's density. Bottled at 15.0% alcohol, it shows black cherry, tobacco and cedar aromas with ripe plum and dark cherry on the palate, followed by toasted almond and vanilla and a long, structured finish. The wine is kosher (OU) and non-mevushal, and presented in a wooden box. Pair with a dry-aged ribeye, lamb chops or a mushroom-rich braise. 750ml bottle. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
