Hijos de Zoila Espadín Mezcal
Hijos de Zoila Espadín is a 750ml mezcal made by the Nolasco family, fourth-generation maguey growers who run a rustic palenque near San Luis del Río, Oaxaca. The agave is crushed with a traditional stone tahona, fermented for a short seven to nine days, and distilled in a copper alambique cooled with local river water. At 48% ABV (96 proof) it is bottled stronger than most mezcals at its level, which gives the Espadín a fuller, more textured body while keeping the bright, vegetal agave character the variety is known for. The classification is artesanal, produced with traditional methods rather than industrial ones. Expect roasted agave sweetness, herbal and citrus-peel notes, and a gentle smoky finish typical of Oaxacan Espadín. The higher proof holds up well in cocktails such as a Mezcal Negroni, Paloma or Mezcal Margarita, and it also works as an everyday sipper served neat in a copita with orange slices and sal de gusano.
