Ikinokura 8 Year Old Sherry Cask Finish Ikikko Koji Whisky comes from Iki, a small island off Nagasaki that is the birthplace of barley shochu. Ikinokura Distillery applies that heritage to whisky: barley is fermented with koji in the island tradition, distilled, aged for eight years and finished in sherry casks, then bottled at 42% ABV in a 700ml bottle.
The nose is rich dried fruit, warm spice and honeyed sweetness with oak and dark chocolate. The palate is velvety, opening with dark cherry and raisin over the warmth of sherry and oak, then toffee, clove and a subtle espresso note. The finish is long and indulgent, with the sherry lingering and the oak returning for a rounded close. Sip it neat.
