Inverroche Amber Gin
Inverroche Amber Gin comes from Still Bay on South Africa's Western Cape, where founder Lorna Scott built a distillery around the fynbos of the Cape Floral Kingdom. Botanicals are layered in steam baskets over a wood-fired copper pot still, and the Amber expression is finished in oak, giving it its golden color. It is bottled at 43% ABV (86 proof), and Inverroche limits production to what the local environment can naturally sustain.
The Gin Shelf found sweet caramelised apple and sticky cinder toffee on the nose alongside resinous pine juniper, rose and lemon peel with a hint of sea salt, then a palate of caramelised apple, medicinal herbs, cinnamon warmth and a woody, cask-aged finish. The reviewer singled it out in a Negroni as "ultra smooth and indulgent," and it is equally good neat or in a G&T where the citrus comes forward.
