JAJA Reposado Tequila

JAJA Reposado is the rested expression from JAJA, the tequila brand launched in 2018 by brothers Elliot and Maurice Tebele, the duo behind one of Instagram's biggest comedy accounts, and their childhood friend Martin Hoffstein, whose name is Spanish for haha and whose whole point is a bottle to open when friends get together. Since the brand's 2021 partnership with Proximo Spirits it is produced at La Rojeña, NOM 1122, one of the oldest working distilleries in tequila. Made in small batches from 100 percent blue Weber agave, the piñas are slow-cooked in brick ovens, fermented with water and yeast, and distilled three times in copper pot stills, then the tequila rests in oak barrels before bottling at 40% ABV, 80 proof. Reviewers describe a light gold color and a nose of herbal agave, lemon citrus, black pepper, brown sugar and creamy vanilla caramel, with a palate that keeps the blanco's agave and pepper but wraps it in brown sugar and caramel from the wood, and a soft finish that stays balanced on ice. It is a reposado that works especially well in a margarita, where the barrel richness meets the herbaceous agave.
