Jefferson's Ocean Aged at Sea Voyage 26 Double Barrel Rye Whiskey is the first rye in Jefferson's famous Ocean series, which sends barrels of whiskey around the world on container ships so the constant motion, salt air and temperature swings accelerate and reshape the aging. Voyage 26 shipped out of Savannah, Georgia, and the whiskey is a Canadian rye that was double barreled in a mix of #3 char and toasted barrels before bottling at 96 proof.
Drinkhacker rated it an A-, praising its balanced complexity: toasty, seasoned oak with hearty rye spice, dark caramel and gingerbread on the nose, clove-studded spice moving into barrel char, chocolate, silky toffee and cinnamon on the palate, and a finish of tobacco and Big Red cinnamon gum. Jefferson's founder Trey Zoeller started the Ocean experiment in 2012, and the rye version brings a brinier, spicier edge to the concept. Each voyage is a limited release and is not repeated.
