Joseph Phelps Freestone Quarter Moon Vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Joseph Phelps, best known for Napa Valley wines, added about 100 acres near the village of Freestone on the Sonoma Coast in 1999 to grow Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Quarter Moon is one of the vineyard-designate bottlings from Freestone Vineyards, farmed sustainably in a cool, coastal setting. Bottled at 13.5% alcohol, it is a restrained, lighter-framed expression. Critics who have reviewed past releases of this wine point to crushed rock, rose petal, mint, sweet red berries and pine, with spiced cranberry, dried tangerine peel, woodsmoke and aniseed on the palate. They also describe a medium-bodied, grainy and fresh structure with a spicy finish and plenty of tension, so it benefits from a few years in the cellar or a decant if opened young. Pair it with roast chicken, seared tuna or duck breast with a berry sauce. A good pick for readers of Burgundy who want to explore the Sonoma Coast. 750ml bottle. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
