Joseph Phelps Freestone Vineyards Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Joseph Phelps founded his winery in Napa Valley in 1973, and the Freestone Vineyards project extends that reach to the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grown near the Pacific in western Sonoma County. The Freestone Pinot Noir is bottled under the Sonoma Coast appellation, where the cool marine climate and persistent fog lengthen the growing season and favor bright acidity over weight. Bottled at 14.5% alcohol, the wine has a youthful juiciness at its core, with cherry and pomegranate fruit running through the palate. Threads of red tea and singed anise add savory interest, and a kiss of toast arrives on the finish without covering the fruit. Texture is fresh and medium-bodied, with a focus on balance and drinkability over sheer power. It is a good choice for people who want a Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir with polish and an approachable personality. The wine drinks well now and can sit for a few years in a cool cellar. Serve it with prosciutto and melon, roast chicken or duck, a brie board or sauteed chanterelle mushrooms. 750ml bottle. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
