Kapena Hawaiian Chili Infused Tequila
Kapena was founded in 2016 by Mike Goto, a West Coast entrepreneur with family roots on Hawaii's Big Island; the name is an adopted Hawaiian word for captain. The tequila is made at NOM 1468 in Jalisco's Los Altos from 100% blue Weber agave, brick-oven cooked, roller milled, fermented with champagne yeast, and double distilled in pot stills with copper coils. The Hawaiian Chili expression infuses that tequila with Hawaiian chili peppers and is bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof). The goal is warmth rather than a dare; one reviewer described a quality burn that is not on-fire hot, with the agave still showing underneath. That makes it an easy upgrade for spicy drinks: build a spicy margarita or paloma without muddling jalapeños, add a splash to a Bloody Mary, or pair it with pineapple and lime for an island-style sour. It also works as a chilled shot with fresh pineapple.
