Kentucky Vintage Bourbon Whiskey
Kentucky Vintage is a small batch bourbon from Kentucky Bourbon Distillers, the Bardstown company better known as Willett, bottled under the name Kentucky Vintage Distillery. It sits in Willett's Small Batch Boutique Bourbon Collection alongside Noah's Mill, Rowan's Creek and Pure Kentucky XO. Like the rest of that collection, Kentucky Vintage doesn't name its source distillery, its mash bill or a specific age. The label says only that it has been allowed to age long beyond any ordinary bourbon, and as a straight Kentucky bourbon it carries at least two years in new charred oak. It's hand-bottled in small batches at 90 proof (45% ABV), and the bottle is dressed the way Willett dresses its boutique line, with a classic label, a wax stamp and a black wax-dipped top. Willett doesn't publish tasting notes for it, but reviewers have described it as corn-forward and sweet, with walnut and ginger, rather than rye-driven. That makes it an easy everyday pour neat or on ice, and a soft, round base for a Whiskey Sour or a Mint Julep.
