Kings County Barrel Strength Empire Rye is the full-proof, once-a-year release of the Brooklyn distillery's Empire Rye, a whiskey made under the collaborative New York standard requiring at least 75% state-grown rye. Kings County uses 80% Danko rye grown in Ancramdale, New York, and 20% English malted barley, double distilled on Scottish copper pot stills at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and aged at least four years in charred oak, with older rye blended in. The distillery calls this the final release of the Empire Rye project in its current form and notes that it sells out quickly every year. It is bottled uncut at 122 proof (61% ABV). The 2026 batch won a Double Gold with a 99-point rating at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition; the series was also named best rye whiskey at Tales of the Cocktail 2023, Best in Category at the 2023 New Orleans Spirits Competition and Best Craft Rye Whiskey at ASCOT 2021.
