Kings County Distillery, founded in 2009 by Colin Spoelman and David Haskell and operating from the Brooklyn Navy Yard since 2012, is New York City's oldest operating whiskey distillery since Prohibition and was named Distillery of the Year by the American Distilling Institute in 2016. Its Blended Bourbon is the distillery's answer to the light, approachable blended whiskies of Scotland and Canada, but built entirely from mature whiskey rather than straight whiskey cut with neutral spirit. Each batch is blended in-house from Kings County's own pot-distilled straight bourbon together with corn, rye and malt whiskeys aged roughly two to four years, with the percentage, age and barrel format of every component printed on the bottle; earlier batches ran about two-thirds straight bourbon. The distillery describes its flavor as sitting between pot still Irish whiskey and traditional bourbon, and recommends it for sipping, highballs, cocktails or alongside a beer. Recent batches have been bottled at 86 proof (43% ABV). Reviewer Jason McBeth of The Whiskey Wash noted sweet corn, vanilla, candied orange and a spicy rye finish, recommending it for Manhattans and whiskey sours.
