Kings County Coffee Whiskey
Kings County Coffee Whiskey is a collaboration between Brooklyn's Kings County Distillery and Parlor Coffee, its longtime neighbor in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Rather than a syrupy coffee liqueur, it is a full-strength 80-proof (40% ABV) flavored whiskey: the distillery's blending team combines Kings County's own pot-distilled bourbon and corn whiskey with Parlor's ready-to-drink Cold Brew, made from carefully sourced coffees roasted in Brooklyn and described by Parlor as having lively, tropical top notes over creamy chocolate undertones. The result carries roughly 14 mg of caffeine per 1.5 oz serving (the distillery notes caffeine does not reduce alcohol's effects). Founder and distiller Colin Spoelman framed the release as a way to move coffee in cocktails beyond sugary syrups or brewed coffee as a base, and the distillery positions it as a more refined alternative to coffee liqueurs that works neat, over ice or in espresso martinis and other cocktails. Kings County, founded in 2009, is New York City's oldest operating whiskey distillery since Prohibition and was named Distillery of the Year by the American Distilling Institute in 2016.
