Kujira 10 Year Old Ryukyu Whisky is a single grain whisky from Okinawa, made by Masahiro Distillery in the tradition of the islands. Its base is awamori, the 500-year-old Ryukyu spirit distilled from long-grain indica rice fermented with black koji, which is then aged ten years in white oak to become whisky. It is bottled at 43% ABV in a 700ml bottle. Kujira means whale, a nod to the humpbacks that winter off Okinawa.
A decade in oak brings subtle oak, caramel, vanilla and dried fruit in a complex, harmonious profile with a remarkably smooth, enduring finish. The rice base keeps it soft and clean, unlike any barley whisky. Sip it neat or with a single cube.
