Laetitia La Colline Single Vineyard Arroyo Grande Valley Pinot Noir
La Colline is a Laetitia estate vineyard in the Arroyo Grande Valley, planted in 1981 and 1998 about four miles from the Pacific Ocean at the base of Picacho Peak, an extinct volcano. The soils are dense clay with pockets of volcanic rock and marine sediments, and the older block includes own-rooted Martini clone vines that deliver wild berry and black cherry character. The cool coastal air means a long growing season and good natural acidity. Bottled at 14.0% alcohol, the wine offers aromas of cherry, rose petal and pomegranate with a subtle smoky background, and a juicy palate supported by fine-grain tannins. The earthy, savory side of the wine makes it a natural match for cured meats such as prosciutto and bresaola, roast chicken or duck, sauteed crimini, maitake or chanterelle mushrooms, and soft cheeses like brie or mascarpone. Serve it a little below room temperature and give it fifteen to twenty minutes of air.
