Laetitia Les Galets Vineyard Arroyo Grande Valley Pinot Noir
Laetitia is an Arroyo Grande Valley estate in San Luis Obispo County, a cool, fog-influenced corner of the Central Coast where the valley opens toward the Pacific. Les Galets, French for the stones, is one of its single-vineyard Pinot Noir bottlings and has been planted to Dijon 115 and Wadenswil clones. In the cellar, Laetitia typically uses small open-top fermenters and French oak for its single-vineyard wines. Bottled at 13.9% alcohol, the wine shows the deep color and earthy, concentrated fruit that this site is known for, with blackberry, boysenberry and plum, a hint of anise and Asian five-spice, and smooth, balanced tannins. The finish is long and savory, and the wine is approachable now but has the structure to hold for several more years. Pair it with roasted duck, grilled pork tenderloin with a plum sauce, or pasta with sauteed chanterelle and maitake mushrooms.
