Lochlea Cask Strength Batch 1 Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Lochlea Cask Strength Batch 1 is the first full-strength release from the South Ayrshire farm distillery where Robert Burns lived and worked from 1777 to 1784. Founded by Neil McGeoch to make single malt entirely from estate-grown barley, with production led by former Laphroaig master distiller John Campbell, Lochlea built Batch 1 from a powerful yet balanced combination of bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks.
Bottled at 120.2 proof (60.1% ABV), non-chill-filtered and naturally colored, in a 700mL bottle, it pours deep amber and opens with caramelized orchard fruit, ripe pear, vanilla, toffee and a floral heather note on the nose, then a bold, full-bodied palate of honeyed malt, toasty oak, dark chocolate, nuts, dried fruit and cinnamon, finishing long and indulgent with a slow-fading warmth. A collector's first batch from one of Scotland's most exciting new distilleries, best explored with a splash of water.
