Lochlea Our Barley Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Lochlea Our Barley is the flagship of a farm distillery in South Ayrshire with a remarkable claim to fame: the farm is where Robert Burns, Scotland's national poet, lived and worked from 1777 to 1784. Founder Neil McGeoch bought the property in 2014 to make single malt entirely from estate-grown barley, distilling began in 2018, and production is now led by John Campbell, the former master distiller of Laphroaig.
Our Barley is a marriage of bourbon, Oloroso sherry and STR red wine casks, bottled at 92 proof, non-chill-filtered and naturally colored, in a 700mL bottle. It is bright and cereal-driven: fresh barley, orchard fruit, honey and vanilla on the nose, then a creamy palate of green apple, malt, gentle sherried fruit and soft spice, finishing clean with a touch of oak. A true field-to-bottle Lowland malt and the ideal introduction to one of Scotland's most talked-about new distilleries.
