Mars Iwai Tradition Japanese Whisky comes from Mars Shinshu Distillery, set at 800 meters in the Japanese Alps of Nagano, the highest whisky distillery in Japan. It is named for Kiichiro Iwai, the engineer who mentored Masataka Taketsuru, the father of Japanese whisky, and whose designs shaped the Mars stills. Iwai Tradition is a blend of malt and grain whiskies matured in bourbon, sherry and wine casks, bottled at 40% ABV in a 700ml bottle.
The nose is delicate florals, citrus and subtle oak. The palate is sweet and fruity with gentle spice and a soft, vanilla-infused warmth that unfolds in layers, and the finish is long and graceful with echoes of vanilla and oak. It is a classic Japanese blend, superb neat and in a highball.
