Matt Taylor Wines Cuvee Kaela Komorebi Vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Matt Taylor is a third-generation Sonoma County native who farms and makes wine with a biodynamic mindset, and Cuvee Kaela is his flagship Pinot Noir. In recent releases, all of the fruit from Komorebi Vineyard went into this bottling. Komorebi is a 6.25 acre site about 4.5 miles inland from the Pacific, due west of Occidental, with Goldridge fine sandy loam soils, vines planted in 2011 at roughly 3,600 per acre and dry farming. The wine is fermented with native yeast and whole clusters, and it is neither fined nor filtered. Bottled at 12.32% alcohol, it is light on its feet, with hibiscus and coastal berry fruit, a saline mineral thread and lingering notes of tea and star anise. Acidity is bright and the texture is poised rather than plush. Serve it slightly cool with seared tuna, roasted chicken with herbs, grilled mushrooms or a Dungeness crab pasta. This is a bottle for drinkers who like cool-climate restraint, and it should reward a few years in the cellar. 750ml bottle. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
