Matt Taylor Wines Komorebi Vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Komorebi, Japanese for sunlight filtered through the leaves of trees, is the vineyard behind this Pinot Noir from Matt Taylor Wines. It sits on a ridge west of Occidental on the Sonoma Coast, roughly 4.5 miles inland from the Pacific, in Goldridge fine sandy loam. The vines are dry-farmed using organic and biodynamic practices, and the long, cool growing season helps the grapes reach skin maturity while holding on to acidity. Taylor, who previously worked at Joseph Swan and Domaine Dujac, deliberately sacrifices red aromatics in how he farms and makes the wine, so the profile leans on a spice spectrum and blue fruit over primary red fruit, with a green note from whole clusters. Bottled at 12.53% alcohol, it is lighter and more savory than most California Pinot Noir. The hand-painted label captures that character. Pair it with roast quail, mushroom risotto or grilled sausages with herbs. A good pick for drinkers who want a low-alcohol, whole-cluster Pinot with an individual voice. 750ml bottle. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
