Midleton Very Rare 2023 Release Irish Whiskey continues the annual tradition begun in 1984, in which Midleton Distillery's master distiller selects a handful of exceptional pot still and grain whiskeys, matured in lightly charred bourbon barrels, for a single numbered vintage blend. The 2023 Release was chosen by Master Distiller Kevin O'Gorman and bottled at 40% ABV in a 700ml bottle.
The nose shows rich vanilla, ripe orchard fruit, honeyed malt and a delicate touch of oak and spice. The palate is velvety and full, with caramel, toffee and tropical fruit over toasted oak, and the finish is long, with warm spice and a hint of dark chocolate. It is a whiskey to be sipped neat and slowly.
