Neyers Vineyards was founded in 1992 by Bruce and Barbara Neyers, longtime figures in Napa wine: Bruce spent decades at Joseph Phelps and as national sales director for importer Kermit Lynch, and Barbara is a chef who cooked at Chez Panisse. Their home ranch sits in Conn Valley in the hills east of St. Helena, and winemaker Tadeo Borchardt, with the estate since 2003, works in a low-intervention style with native yeasts and minimal new oak. The Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon blends estate Conn Valley fruit with select Napa growers, is fermented with native yeasts, and ages in French oak barrels before bottling at around 14.5% alcohol. Decanter's reviewers describe the Neyers Cabernet style as lovely and contemplative, with heady brown spices, green tobacco, and blackberry fruit laced with black licorice and sweet oak. It is a Napa Cabernet built on balance and freshness rather than sheer weight. Serve this 750ml bottle with herb-roasted chicken, grilled flank steak, or a mushroom risotto.
