No. 209 Barrel Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is the San Francisco distillery's gin aged seven months in medium-toasted French oak casks that previously held Rudd Cabernet Sauvignon from the Rudd Oakville Estate in Napa Valley, the winery owned by the same family. The gin is reduced to 55% ABV before it goes into the barrel so the oak does not overpower the botanicals, and it is bottled at 46% ABV (92 proof).
Difford's Guide awarded it 5+ out of 5, describing pine, dried fruit and raspberry with cardamom, citrus, vanilla and Christmas spice on the nose, then dry piney juniper, zesty citrus, red berry fruit and cardamom on the palate and an aftertaste of lime zest, dried berry and warming spice. The distillery adds cassia, clove, ginger, black pepper, chocolate and oak on the finish. Difford's recommends it in a Martinez, and it is equally good in a Negroni or sipped neat.
