No. 209 Barrel Reserve Chardonnay is the San Francisco distillery's gin finished in California Chardonnay barrels from the Rudd family's Napa Valley wine estates, part of the Barrel Reserve program that also includes Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc finishes. The gin rests in the white-wine casks for roughly four months and is bottled at 46% ABV (92 proof).
The distillery describes a first sip that is subtly sweet and almost fruity, followed by the core No. 209 botanicals of juniper, cardamom, orange and eucalyptus, then a rich, long finish with a light tannic tang, toasted oak and a pronounced butterscotch note. Where the Cabernet version leans toward red fruit and spice, the Chardonnay is softer and rounder, which makes it a natural in a white Negroni, a gin Old Fashioned or simply over a large ice cube. A limited bottling for collectors of aged gin.
