Nosotros Madera Añejo Tequila
Nosotros is the Jalisco tequila brand founded in 2017 by Carlos Soto, with co-founder Michael Arbanas, and made under maestra tequilera Citlali Ovalde, one of the first women to run production as a master distiller in Jalisco. The house signature is a blend of highland and lowland agave in every bottle, the highlands bringing fruit and florals and the valley bringing earth and pepper. Madera, released in 2022, is the first bottling in the Madera Collection, a series of añejos aged in unusual ways. For this release Ovalde aged the blended tequila for 21 months in white oak, splitting it between two very different vessels, large pipones and standard 200-liter barrels, so that the slower, gentler oak contact of the big casks could be married back with the more intense wood influence of the small ones. It is bottled at 40% ABV, each bottle carrying its own batch number and packed in an engraved wooden box. Nosotros describes a nose of dried fruit and light butterscotch, with a balanced cinnamon-and-toffee finish that keeps the agave in view instead of burying it under oak. A sipping añejo for a snifter, neat, at room temperature.
