Number Juan Extra Añejo Tequila
Number Juan is the tequila brand founded in 2012 by longtime friends and comedians Ron White and Alex Reymundo, made at NOM 1531 in Jalisco. The Extra Añejo is the top of the regular lineup. It starts the same way as the Blanco: 100% blue Weber agave matured seven years before harvest, cooked in stone and brick ovens, crushed on a roller mill, fermented in stainless steel tanks and double distilled in stainless pot stills with spring water from the Tequila volcano. Then it goes into charred American white oak barrels for a full five years, well beyond the three-year minimum for the extra añejo category, which the brand counts as a twelve-year journey from planting to bottle. The published notes are caramel and oak, and the long time in charred wood adds the vanilla and deep amber color that fans of aged spirits look for. It's bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof). Five years in barrel puts it squarely in sipping territory, so pour it neat in a snifter or a copita and give it a few minutes in the glass.
