Old Trestle Theory Gin 001 is the debut release from Old Trestle Distillery in Truckee, California, which launched in 2019 as the town's first distillery in more than 100 years. Master distiller Jake Holshue describes it as a Western-style gin that is easy, approachable and a touch sweeter than a London Dry, built on juniper, coriander and citrus peel plus botanicals gathered responsibly along the Truckee River in September. It is bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof).
The nose is juniper, coriander and fresh citrus with picked herbs and a hint of florals; the palate keeps the juniper backbone while citrus adds brightness and a whisper of spice warms the long, smooth finish. It is a gin built for the outdoors: a G&T on the deck, a Collins after a hike, or a soft Martini by the fire. The bottle that started the Theory series, and a great introduction to Sierra craft distilling.
