Ornabrak Single Malt Gin
Ornabrak Single Malt Gin is an Irish gin for whiskey drinkers, produced by Origin Spirits and distilled at West Cork Distillers in Skibbereen. It starts with 100% Irish malted barley distilled four times in a copper pot still, then goes through a fifth distillation with just five botanicals: juniper, Douglas fir needles, angelica root, lemon verbena and lemon peel. It is bottled at 43% ABV (86 proof).
The malt base gives it a rich, creamy nose with juniper, malt, pine, subtle spice and citrus, then a smooth, complex palate of juniper, vanilla, pink peppercorn and earthy citrus with a long, persistent finish. Irish Whiskey Blogger called it "a gin for whiskey drinkers" and recommended it neat or with a little water and ice, where the oily texture and botanical layers show best. It also makes an unusually rich Martini or Martinez.
