Padró & Co. Rojo Clásico Vermouth
Padró & Co. Rojo Clásico is a 750ml classic red vermouth from Padró & Co., the family winery in Bràfim, Tarragona, that has made Catalan vermouth since 1886. It is made from estate-grown Macabeo and Xarel·lo grapes; after the first winter following harvest, sugar and a blend of herbs are added, and the vermouth ages in 50-year-old chestnut barrels once used for transporting wine.
The nose is very expressive with sweet spices, especially cinnamon and clove, and hints of candied fruit, and the palate is creamy and fresh with a finish of slightly bitter Mediterranean herbs. Serve it the Catalan way over ice with an olive and orange, or in a Negroni or Americano.
