Panthera Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
Panthera is the Pinot Noir label from Lions Head Cellar, the Napa and Sonoma project started by Tim and Sabrina Persson in 2014 under the Hess Persson Estates umbrella, with winemaker Stephanie Pope in charge of the cellar. The grapes come from the Sonoma Coast, where cool, foggy conditions preserve the bright, pure fruit that defines the appellation. Winemaking begins with optical berry sorting, followed by fermentation in small-lot tanks with close monitoring of pump-overs. The wine then ages for about 15 months in Burgundy French oak, roughly 30 percent of it new. Bottled at 14.4% alcohol, it shows sarsaparilla, Bing cherry and ripe wild strawberry on the nose with anise and dried sage underneath. The palate is bright with summer fruit, tea notes and allspice, supported by soft, supple tannins and a backbone of acidity that leads to a silky finish. It is polished, fruit-forward Pinot Noir with a confident oak profile. Pair it with roast chicken, grilled salmon or a mushroom pasta. 750ml bottle. Vintages may vary; we ship the current release.
