Monymusk is the house brand of Clarendon Distillery, the big modern distillery on the Monymusk sugar estate in Clarendon parish, southern Jamaica, operated by National Rums of Jamaica, a company owned jointly by the Jamaican government, Diageo and Maison Ferrand, the Cognac house behind Plantation rum, which is why this bottle carries both names. Clarendon's output has mostly gone out in bulk to blenders, and the Monymusk range was revived to put the distillery's name on the shelf. The White Overproof is triple distilled from molasses, blended at the nearby Innswood aging house, and bottled unaged and crystal clear at 63% ABV (126 proof) in a one-liter bottle. It is a different animal from Wray & Nephew: where the Kingston overproof is all funk and grass, this one is cleaner and sweeter, with molasses, toffee, brown sugar and coconut on the nose, a hint of banana and papaya, and very little of the high-ester hogo, closer in spirit to a Demerara white at full strength. That makes it the easy overproof for mixing, built for a Daiquiri, a Dark 'n' Stormy, rum punch, or a float on a tiki drink, a workhorse bottle for the home bar.
