Plantation One Time Limited Edition Trinidad 2009 Rum
Plantation's Trinidad 2009 is a One-Time Limited Edition from Maison Ferrand, the Cognac house run by Alexandre Gabriel that built the Plantation range on a double-aging model: tropical maturation at the source distillery, then a second rest in France. This one comes from Trinidad Distillers Limited, where multi-column still rum distilled in 2009 spent 11 years in 200-liter ex-bourbon casks in the distillery's own cellars. It was then shipped to the Charente for a further 12 months in 400-liter French oak casks from Ferrand before being bottled from a selection of 24 casks at 51.8% ABV (103.6 proof), well above the brand's standard strength. Trinidad's column-still style is lighter and cleaner than Jamaican or Guyanese rum, and the long tropical aging is what gives this bottling its depth: the published notes describe it as deep and well-structured, with pastries, nuts and a light petrol note that regular Trinidad drinkers will recognize from the island's older stock. As a One-Time release it was produced once and will not be repeated, which makes it a collector's bottle as much as a sipper.
