Plantation Venezuela 2010 is a One-Time Limited Edition from Maison Ferrand, a 12-year-old vintage rum produced once and never repeated. It was distilled in 2010 on column stills from molasses at Destilería Sofá, where it spent its first eight years in ex-bourbon barrels in the distillery's own cellars under the Venezuelan climate. Alexandre Gabriel then moved it to the Charente for roughly four more years in Ferrand's French oak Cognac casks, the double-aging approach that defines the Plantation range. It was bottled at 52% ABV (104 proof) as part of the brand's Under The Sea collection, in a decorated presentation box. The producer's notes describe a delicate but rich nose of nutmeg, honey, vanilla, tangerine, coconut, nuts, Brazilian coffee and a light floral note; a spicy, woody palate of peanut, tobacco, almond, oak and pepper with crème brûlée, pineapple and dried banana; and a long, dry finish of hazelnut, leather, mango, orange, banana and clove. Venezuelan rum is typically sold young and sweetened, so this release shows the country's spirit in an uncommon, cask-driven form.
