Pōkeno Prohibition is a sherried single malt from Pōkeno Whisky Company in New Zealand's Waikato region, named for the era of clandestine drinking and finished in rich Oloroso sherry casks. It begins with the distillery's fruity, clean malt, matured in ex-bourbon wood, then takes on the dark fruit and nut character of Oloroso during its finishing period. Bottled at 46% ABV, non chill-filtered, in a 700ml bottle.
It pours deep mahogany, with plums, cherries and opulent sherried sweetness on the nose, plus oak and a hint of chocolate. The palate is velvety with ripe berries and dried fruit, caramel and warm spice, and the finish is long with toffee, oak and gentle spice.
